Stingfree AB appeals the decision of the Public Health Agency of Sweden

”Consumers” right to information must be protected"

Stingfree AB appeals the Public Health Agency of Sweden's decision that makes it difficult for snus consumers to make informed choices

[Stockholm, 2025-10-11] - The Public Health Agency has decided to prohibit Stingfree AB from informing consumers about our product's patented property, which aims to protect the gums, on our snus cans. We believe that the decision is wrong in principle, counter to the purpose of the law, and have therefore appealed the case to the Administrative Court.

The stated aim of the law is to ”limit the health risks and harms associated with the use of tobacco-free nicotine products”. We fully share this ambition. That is why, backed by science, we have developed a product that addresses one of the best-known harms of snus use - gum damage, a problem that, according to independent studies, affects up to 70 % of all snus users.

The Public Health Agency of Sweden refers to the fact that labeling must not imply that a product is ”less harmful”, and states that this applies ”regardless of whether the claim has scientific support or not”.

We strongly question an interpretation that actively withholds verifiable and relevant information from consumers. This creates a paradox: a law designed to protect public health is being used to prevent information about an innovation that has been proven to reduce harm.

The positive impact of our technology has been verified in a scientific study with snus-using dentists as participants. The fact that the authority considers this fact irrelevant is deeply problematic.

Banning factual information about a product's specific characteristics makes it more difficult for Swedish snus users to make informed choices about their oral health. We are convinced that transparency and innovation, not silence, is the way forward to promote public health.

We look forward with confidence to the judicial review in the Administrative Court.

Briefly about the study

-All participants were dentists who are daily users of either white snuff or tobacco snuff.
-95.7 % of participants had visible and confirmed lesions before switching completely to a Stingfree product for 5 weeks.
-After 5 weeks, the severity of the injuries had decreased by more than 50% - from around 2 to 1.
-The statistics showed a p-value of 0.0002, meaning that it is 99.98 % likely that the improvement was due to Stingfree's Protex technology, not chance.
