The world's first nicotine pouches with built-in patented gum protection have been launched in Sweden
Stingfree tobacco-free nicotine pouches with built-in patented gum protection have now been launched in Sweden. The Stingfree technology reduces the burning and irritation of the gums that is so typical of regular snus and nicotine products. Several e-retailers and stores are now selling the first product in an upcoming series of nicotine pouches with different flavors and strengths.
Reduces burning and irritation. Several studies have shown that many snus users experience damage and changes to their gums, especially where the prills are in direct contact with the gums. Stingfree technology aims to counteract this and the associated burning/irritation at the placement site by having an impermeable barrier on the gum side of the prill. A high percentage of snus users dislike when nicotine portions and snus sting and irritate their gums. This is a fact that Sting Free AB found in a comprehensive survey in 2022 with responses from over 1000 Swedish snus users (of which almost 40% women). Of the respondents, 67% of the women considered the stinging, regardless of when it stings, to be unpleasant, as did 53% of the men. Almost 50% of the respondents had had oral health problems linked to their snus/nicotine use pointed out to them by their dentists.
Sting Free AB's vision is that stingfree technology will become a new industry standard for nicotine pouches and traditional portioned snus, like diet products for soft drinks or Goretex for clothing, and that in the future customers will be asked “regular or stingfree?” when buying such products. The company also hopes that the technology will help more smokers switch from deadly cigarettes to much less dangerous nicotine pouches.
Shareholders include the successful real estate entrepreneur Erik Selin and the inventor of the first portion snus 50 years ago, Professor Curt Enzell, former head of research at Swedish Match. The majority of shares are held by the Wiberg family on Lidingö.
