DO NOT flush snus down the toilet!

What do you do with your snuff when it's time to spit out the prill? Let's face it... 4 million prills are flushed down Swedish toilets - every day! Many snus users choose to flush loose snus, portion snus and nicotine pouches down the toilet, but this is actually not a good idea. It creates huge problems and costs that ultimately affect everyone.

Harmful effects on the environment

Snuff and cigarettes contain the heavy metal cadmium. When you flush these down the toilet, cadmium and other toxins are spread in the wastewater and eventually end up in nature. In Sweden, 1.4 billion prills are flushed down the toilet every year. This amounts to just over 1 100 tons of snus per year, which is equivalent to 100 normal-sized truckloads.

Problems for sewerage systems

The debris causes, among other things, expensive, inconvenient stoppages in pumping stations and pipes. When pipes, pumps and treatment plants break down or have other problems, untreated wastewater can be discharged into our lakes, seas and rivers.

What you can do instead

The best tip is to always have a trash can in the toilet where you throw away everything that should not be flushed. Throw your trash and cigarette butts in the trash can instead. This way, we can all help protect our environment and keep our wastewater systems working properly.

Remember. The only things that should be flushed down the toilet are pee, poop and toilet paper.
